02/10/2026 Update: (PLEASE SEE BELOW THE CURRENT ACTIVE BOIL WATER NOTICE FOR MEADOWBROOK)

Current update: 02/10/2026:

We would like to provide a comprehensive update regarding system testing following the recent ice jam flooding event near the well site.

All testing performed to date has been voluntary and initiated by Home Water out of an abundance of caution due to the area flooding. As a precautionary measure following those conditions, Home Water selected one sampling location outside of the regularly scheduled RCA-required monthly sampling. The site was chosen in the area of the original ice jam flood impact.

That sample returned a positive result for Total Coliform and E. coli. Based on that result, we immediately initiated the Boil Water Notice protocol in coordination with regulatory guidance to ensure protection of public health.

While not required beyond the initial response protocol following a positive result, as the distribution system owner we determined that the unusual flooding circumstances warranted expanded and continued monitoring.

Yesterday, 02/09/2026, five (5) sampling locations were tested:

• The source (well house) – Results returned clear
• Four (4) locations within the distribution system, including the original location that previously tested positive

Of the four distribution samples:

• Three (3) returned clear results, including the originally affected site
• One (1) different location returned a positive result for Total Coliform and E. coli

The clear result at the well house continues to indicate that the groundwater source itself is not showing contamination. In post-flood conditions, isolated or localized areas within a distribution system can produce intermittent results due to pressure fluctuations, temporary stagnation zones, or residual environmental impacts. These findings can shift between sampling points as the system stabilizes.

We are continuing to work closely with our engineer and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation to evaluate trends and determine whether system-wide chlorination is necessary. A chlorination plan is being prepared so that it can be implemented promptly if required.

While that plan is being finalized, additional multi-site sampling has been scheduled for Thursday to further assess conditions throughout the system.

The Boil Water Notice remains in effect until testing confirms the system meets all regulatory requirements.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we take proactive steps beyond minimum requirements to ensure the safety and reliability of the Meadow Brook water system.

We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available.

ATTENTION MEADOWBROOK RESIDENTS

Due to extensive flooding near the wellhead, precautionary Total Coliform and E. coli water samples were collected on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

At approximately 2:20 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, laboratory results were received indicating the presence of Total Coliform and E. coli bacteria.

As a result, effective immediately, the Meadowbrook Subdivision is under a Boil Water Notice.

What this means:

All water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice, washing dishes, or food preparation must be brought to a rolling boil for at least one (1) minute and then allowed to cool before use. Bottled water may be used as an alternative.

Home Water is currently coordinating with the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and is working to obtain approval for a treatment plan and corrective actions. Pending DEC approval, system chlorination is anticipated to begin on Monday, February 9, 2026.

Additional updates and instructions will be provided as more information becomes available.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to restore water quality and ensure the safety of the system.
